The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has set standards for non-bovine milk (goat, camel, and sheep) under sub-regulation 2.1.2 of the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulation, 2011. Since 2021, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying has implemented the National Livestock Mission (NLM) nationwide. This helps in establishing breeding farms for poultry, sheep, goat, pig, horse, camel, and donkey, along with feed and fodder units in order to promote livestock farming. This presents a promising prospect for individuals, Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), Self-Help Groups (SHGs), Joint Liability Groups (JLGs), Farmer Cooperative Organizations (FCOs), and Section 8 companies.
