Introduction
Every year on January 12th, India celebrates National Youth Day, also known as Rashtriya Yuva Divas, to honor the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. A philosopher, spiritual leader, and visionary, Swami Vivekananda believed in the power of youth to shape a better future. His teachings continue to inspire young minds to dream big, channel their energy productively, and contribute to nation-building.
With youth (ages 15-29) making up nearly 40% of India’s population, this dynamic group represents the driving force behind the country’s progress. National Youth Day serves as a reminder of their potential and the need to empower them with the right opportunities. It is a day to celebrate their role in India’s growth, innovation, and leadership.
Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue – 2025
In a landmark initiative, the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue 2025 was held on January 11th and 12th, commemorating Swami Vivekananda’s 162nd birth anniversary. The event was formally inaugurated by Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment.
On January 12th, Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged with 3,000 young leaders from across India, selected through a rigorous, merit-based process from over 30 lakh participants. This event marked a significant shift from the traditional National Youth Festival, offering a more interactive and solution-driven platform.

A Platform for Youth-Led Change
At the event, young participants presented innovative solutions on ten key themes crucial to India’s development, including:
- Technology and Innovation
- Sustainability and Climate Action
- Women Empowerment
- Manufacturing and Industrial Growth
- Agriculture and Rural Development
To recognize the contributions of these young minds, a compilation of the best essays on these themes was released. Adding a unique touch, Prime Minister Modi joined the young leaders for lunch, creating an open space for direct interaction, idea-sharing, and motivation.
Conclusion
National Youth Day 2025 was more than just a celebration—it was a call to action. The Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue set a precedent for meaningful youth engagement, encouraging fresh ideas for India’s development. As the youth take center stage in shaping the nation’s future, such initiatives strengthen their role as leaders, innovators, and change-makers.
