Bharat Taxi is India’s first cooperative-led ride-hailing platform, established on 6 June 2025 under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002. Supported by eight national cooperative institutions, it combines digital technology with a member-owned, zero-commission model in which drivers, known as Sarathis, participate as owners.
The article explains Bharat Taxi’s cooperative ownership model, transparent fares, ride categories, driver-centred governance, women-focused initiatives, safety features, Digital India integration and social security benefits. As of 25 July 2026, the platform had nearly 8 lakh registered Sarathis and around 41 lakh registered customers.
This article also highlights Bharat Taxi’s partnerships, e-Shram and Ayushman Bharat benefits, airport connectivity and its planned nationwide expansion by 2029, making it an important example of technology-enabled cooperative urban mobility.
