Ministry of Culture’s Financial Assistance Scheme

Guru-Shishya Parampara

The Ministry of Culture has launched the Guru-Shishya Parampara (Repertory Grant) scheme to promote traditional performing arts in India. This central sector initiative provides financial assistance to eligible cultural organizations involved in various performing arts activities. These activities include music, dance, theatre, and folk art. The scheme aims to support the traditional practice of imparting training from Guru (master) to Shishya (disciple). This training is in accordance with the Guru-Shishya Parampara across the country, which has been greatly supported by the Ministry of Culture.

Key Features of the Guru-Shishya Parampara Scheme

  1. Financial Support for Training: The scheme offers funding to cultural organizations dedicated to training artists (Shishyas) aged 3 years and above. This training is under the guidance of their Gurus and is supported by the Ministry of Culture.
  1. Application Requirements: To access the grants, organizations must submit annual applications or proposals for both renewal and fresh selections. Complete proposals will undergo a thorough review by an Expert Committee established by the Ministry of Culture.
  1. Expert Review Process: The Expert Committee evaluates applications based on the scheme guidelines and the cultural resources and activities of the organization. They also consider the justification for financial support and interactions with the Gurus or representatives. The Ministry of Culture oversees this entire process.
  2. Encouraging New Talent: The Guru-Shishya Parampara scheme not only supports existing organizations but also invites applications from new cultural organizations each year. This fosters growth in traditional art forms. Additionally, it encourages budding artists in the performing arts sector, with the backing of the Ministry of Culture.
