SHe-Box Portal: A Step Towards Safer Workplaces for Women in India

The Ministry of Women and Child Development recently launched the SHe-Box portal, an online platform aimed at enhancing the implementation of The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act, 2013 (SH Act). This significant initiative ensures that one can effectively monitor the cases of sexual harassment. Additionally, there is also a focus on data management regarding complaints filed and resolved.

Key Features of the SHe-Box Portal
  1. Centralized Repository: The SHe-Box portal serves as a centralized database that provides information related to Internal Committees (ICs) and Local Committees (LCs) across various workplaces in both the government and private sectors. This feature facilitates easy access and transparency.
  2. End-to-End Complaint Monitoring: The portal offers a comprehensive complaint management system. Users can file complaints directly through the platform, ensuring that their concerned authorities can address those promptly.
  3. User-Friendly Registration: Either an aggrieved woman or someone acting on her behalf can submit the complaints. To file a complaint, the aggrieved woman must register her details, such as her employment status, name, phone number, and email. If someone else is filing on her behalf, they must provide their relationship with the complainant and similar contact details.
  4. Automatic Submission Process: When the IC or LC of the concerned workplace registers itself on the portal, the appropriate committee receives the complaints automatically. If not registered, the portal facilitates the registration process to ensure every workplace is covered.
  5. Monitoring Dashboard: The SHe-Box portal includes a monitoring dashboard for nodal officers at the central, state, and district levels, enabling them to track the number of cases filed, resolved, and pending, including cases exceeding prescribed timelines.
  6. Status Tracking for Complainants: Complainants can easily track the status of their complaints through the portal, promoting transparency and accountability.
  7. Confidentiality Assurance: To maintain the complainant’s privacy, the SHe-Box portal masks personal details. Only the IC or LC Chairperson has access to the specifics of the complaint, ensuring confidentiality is upheld.
Compliance with the Law

The SHe-Box portal’s design aligns with the provisions of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act. The act mandates that inquiries into complaints must be completed within 90 days, reinforcing the commitment to timely justice.

Conclusion

The launch of the SHe-Box portal is a significant step towards creating a safer work environment for women in India. By streamlining the process for reporting and addressing sexual harassment, the government aims to empower women and uphold their rights in the workplace. Meanwhile, stay informed and utilize the resources available through the SHe-Box portal for a safer work experience!
