The note gives answers to ‘Quiz of the Day’ for this week, which were:

Q1: What is the mechanism on a canal that allows the water level to be raised or lowered?

Ans: A lock 

Q2: What is the minimum age to be a member of the Lok Sabha & Rajya Sabha? 

Ans. Article 84 of the Constitution has laid down the qualifications for the membership of Parliament. Twenty five years for Lok Sabha and 30 years for Rajya Sabha. Other important conditions are: 

  • Must be a citizen of India
  • Not be a proclaimed criminal.
  • Not be a subject of insolvent i.e. s/he should not be in debt that s/he is not capable of repaying in a current manner and should have the ability to meet his/her financial expenses.
  • Not hold any other office of profit under the Government of India.
  • Not be of unsound mind.
  • Possess such other qualifications as may be prescribed in that behalf by or under any law made by Parliament.

Q3: Which galaxy is the immediate neighbor to our galaxy Milky Way?

Ans. Andromeda.

Q4: The people identified as Berbers inhabit which continent and which countries within that continent?

Ans: Berbers, also known as Imazighen, are the indigenous people of North Africa. They live in communities across Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Mali, Niger and Mauritania.

Q5: Which constitutional amendment is also known as a mini-constitution for the extensive changes it introduced?

Ans. The 42nd Constitutional amendment passed in 1976, introduced the words socialist, secular and integrity in the preamble.
