Plastic waste generation in India has significantly increased from 3.36 million tonnes in 2018-19 to 4.13 million tonnes in 2022-23. The government has introduced the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), banning single-use plastics, and providing financial assistance under the Swachh Bharat Mission for effective waste management, aiming to reduce pollution and enhance sustainability.
